佛告舍利弗：“诸佛如来但教化菩萨，诸有所作常为一事，唯以佛之知见示悟众生。舍利弗！如来但以一佛乘故为众生说法，无有余乘若二若三。舍利弗！一切十方诸佛，法亦如是。”

The Buddha said to Sāriputra: “The Buddha-Tathāgatas teach only the bodhisattva doctrines [that transform sentient beings into bodhisattvas]; all the acts of Buddhas are solely to demonstrate the knowledge and insight of Buddha to bring sentient beings to enlightenment. Sāriputra! The Tathāgatas teach the Dharma to sentient beings through only the single Buddha Vehicle; they have no other vehicles—no second or third vehicle. Sāriputra! Buddhas of the ten directions and their instructions are all like this.”

从过去诸佛、未来诸佛以及现在的十方无数诸佛，都在演说唯一佛乘来告诉大家：诸佛世尊来人间不会演说了二乘法就走人的。因为来人间降生示现的目的是为了唯一佛乘，而唯一佛乘就是函盖了二乘菩提的大乘佛法，修完大乘佛法而使人能够到达究竟佛地、获得一切种智，这才是诸佛来人间示现的目的。

The innumerable Buddhas of the past, the present, and the future in the worlds of ten directions expound the single Buddha Vehicle to make known that no Buddha-Tathāgata will depart from the human world after teaching only the Dharma of the Two Lesser Vehicles. A Buddha descends and manifests in the human world for the purpose of demonstrating the single Buddha Vehicle, which is the Great Vehicle that subsumes the Two Lesser Vehicles. The complete cultivation of the Great Vehicle enables one to acquire the knowledge-of-all-aspects and arrive at the ultimate Buddha Ground. This is the real purpose of all Buddhas’ manifestation in the human world.
